Blackboard, or BLS, is an online website that allows universities, schools, and companies to host classes on the internet. This allows for e-learning and e-commerce.

Affordances:it makes online classes assessablehelps to organize regular classesenables the access of regular classes onlineclass is never cancelled due to weatherThe downside of this is that it is exclusive. In order to use blackboard, you must be part of a university that has blackboard. It is not free software, and it is password protected. Therefore, you would not be able to hold an online conference through this software, unless everyone participating was part of the same university or organization.

I would say this software is a great software to have in a University, and on a 5 point scale (5 being the most useful and 1 being the least useful) i would rate it as a 5. The Affordances defiantly outweigh the downfalls. It is a very efficient tool that is used to organize and post assignments and hold classes. Over 2,000 educational institutions in 60 countries already use blackboard, and I can defiantly see why that is.
